FOR SALE BY AUCTION: auction to be held at 5pm on 20th December 2018 at Kingston Park Rugby Club. “We are pleased to offer to auction this striking former auction house, prominently located on the corner of Bede Burn Road, Jarrow. The property has a GEA of 279sqm, the total site area is 530sqm and is subject to significant fire damage. The stonework of the building alone is fairly valuable. Although there is no planning permission on the site currently, the owner advises that the council has suggested the site would be suitable for demolition and development. Starting bid is £155,000.”
The auction site said by the end of Feb 2019, that the starting bid was £99,250
…a date of auction now on 27 Feb 2019. In March 2019 the Church was not mentioned on the site.
On 1 Dec 2020 The Shields Gazette reported: “Developer about to submit architect plans to the South Tyneside Council for five 2 bedroom high-end apartments.” See here. Then in Sept 2022 the Council rejected the application following “434 written objections were submitted to the council along with an online petition signed by more than 370 people calling for the 1885-built church to be saved.” See here.
